Just installed a 4 1/2 inch lift kit and all new ball joints. And now when I steer in a certain way or hit a bump in a certain way I can feel a popping/tapping at my feet and I can hear it coming from the front end. I thought it was the sway bar so I pulled it off and it's still making that sound. Any info is appreciated, what the heck is it!!

MIne does this from time to time and its my adjustable control arms. The fixed nut that allows them to be adjusted comes loose. I just lift it up, crank it down and its good until the next time i hit the trails.
Could also be the trac bar as mentioned. If you have anything adjustable on your lift, make sure all the nuts that keep the adjustable part from moving are tight.
Lastly, I have read that the shocks can do this and the solution is BPE's (bar pin eliminators). hope some of this helps you out.

Yeah, many variables here. I too experienced this. And still do from time to time. I did a over kill and replaced alotta items. Even the isolator pads for the springs and the retainer clips at the bottom of the spring.
And like everyone else said. Make sure whatever is adjustable is tight.
Did you replace your track bar or steering components at all?

I re drilled the hole for the track bar and then I had to put a new/used draglink and tie rod in. Bad u joints could be it because it's old and usually the thing that's wrong is the biggest PITA to fix. I'm gonna go with Murphy's Law.
When money permits. I would suggest a new adjustable track bar. I would also highly recommend a new steering setup. Especially if your using stock steering stuff.
If and when the time comes for that stuff. Check out FrankZ's sight. His steering is awesome. I think he has a track bar as well. I'm not sure.

I've used RE and Rusty's adj track bar kits. Both work great. No complaints.
Right now I'm using Rusty's Steering conversion kit. It's worked quite fine as well. However I dislike how the tie rod hits the lower track bar bolt. Its put a small bent on the backside of the bar.
FrankZ's kit is beefier and less expensive than what I've got. His is also stronger all around. I don't have hands on experience with it yet. But I will be upgrading to it, once other issues are taken care of first.
Congrats on your lift. Hope your trouble shoot your issue at hand.

I had the same clunk in my 87 and my wifes 92, I torqued the hell out of the track bar mount bolts and that solved the problem. No more clunks since then.
