Please don't stone me... Power steering box upgrade
Hey guys, so my power steering box is going out and I need to get a new one. I know about the Durango swap, but I don't really need it because I don't plan on going past 31's. I have heard that a ZJ or a two wheel drive S10 will work as well? I think that it is a quicker turn for those. My question is if they are a direct swap or do I need to adjust anything? Does anyone know about this swap?
Thanks!
Thanks!

J20, YJ, and Durango are all direct swap. I have ran them all. My favorite is still the stock XJ box in terms of response and I like the variable ratio. Fixed just wasn't right for me contrary to what the Internet told me. If I were in your shoes I would just replace it with another stock XJ box

Ok, that was kind of what I was looking in to when I saw about the other boxes. If it's not a major improvement, I'll stick with stock. I don't mind the turn anyways.
Do you think it would be worth it pulling it from a JY? I mean, is there some surefire way to tell if it's still good on a junker, or would it be better to fork over a $100 and be guaranteed a working unit?

I'll jerk the pitman around and see if it's leaking profusely. Turn it if possible. If it looks okay I'd feel comfortable running it. I've blown threw a number of boxes. The junked ones last just as long as the reman'd in my experience
If the shipping wasn't so expensive from CA I'd just sell you mine lol it's practically new

S10 box is also a direct swap, and identical turns lock to lock, just better than the XJ stock box. You can probably get the S10 cheaper and easier.
Durango box needs shimmed away from the frame, S10 does not.
I was looking at the S10 box for a swap, but after fixing the true issue, that swap is out for me. Good luck on a JY find. There are XJ's out there with boxes, just don't know how beat they compared to S10 models. It would be great to find a low mileage crashed rig to get one from.
