I'm cleaning some rims and the rim rips. How do I get this off

Isn't that just the clear coat coming off? To be thorough, you'd have to sand it to get it ALL off, then you'd almost certainly want to paint or re-clear it.

On the bright side that's the reason I'm cleaning them. This is weird though.

Looks like that protective plastic that comes on shiny things and someone just never took it off.

Imagine that it was that, but superglued on. That's about what I'm dealing with.

Its the clear coat pealing off them rims.I would leave it be unless you want a lot of sanding them you have to seal them rims or re clear coat them.

times like that I'm glad I have a sandblaster.... If you dont paint it will oxidize, but I see u plastidipped. I'm gonna go on a dip craze on all my cars in about a week lol

Just depends how much you like them rims and how much work your willing to do.

long story short its definitely the clearcoat huh? i dont intend to sand it. i wonder if i can take a propane torch to the parts that are sticking up. i just dont want them frayed all over so the plastidip will apply more evenly, and correctly.

Go get some of this:



Brush it on. Hose it off. Repeat for tough areas. Stuff works great.

i actually do have some believe it or not. wasnt sure what i was dealing with on the rim before i actually poured it on lol. im seriously wondering if the torch will work

Rims on my pickup never had clear coat on them from the looks of it, they are pitted and stained with brake dust something terrible. I think I will need to have them sandblasted before trying to re-polish them. I hope your some out much better
