Default Panel beneath passenger doors

I'd like to replace the OEM panel that runs the length of the two doors on each side of my 2001 XJ Sport. One has rusted through. Another Jeep owner once suggested that rather than Bondo/repair them, I replace them with an aftermarket piece that incorporates a step of some kind. Any suggestions here?

2"x6" 3/16" steel tubing, it's a structural repair.

Does anybody have a picture and/or source for this solution?
