When I got my cherokee the po rattle canned it gloss black and has orange racing stripes on hood and a 3" thick stripe down sides. don't look bad but not great either. I want to rattle can it white. Wat should I do to prep it and anyone have any tips/hints? I really like white cherokees and miss my 96 white one. Thanks

id just make sure it is dirt free and sand any spots that need it, get a primer and spay it, then spray it with the paint.

the best way is to coat it very light once, then coat it again, then coat it again, then again, verylight every time drying between, it wont look too bad

Sand it all down if you want it perfect. If not just sand the scratches smooth and rust and what not. Sand the whole body to a dull then primer then your white paint. Like said above first light coat then a lil thicker. Don't do it to thick I think the best is a lot if thin coats. Or if you want hurculine the whole jeep. Lol

it's gonna take a lot of white paint to cover black. best thing to do would be wet sand the buhjeezus out of it, then wash, then let dry. find some grey rattlecan primer, and make sure you get lots of coverage with it, wet sand again, wash again, let dry, the go at it with the white, make sure your only spraying for a short duration at a time, or else the nozzle will get clogged and your spray pattern will be uneven, just do around a foot long spray, let go of the button, and start spraying again instead of just holding the button down.

as long as you do it right, a rattlecan paintjob can turn out alright, and last a while

you'll want to wet sand any part you wanna paint to make the paint and primer stick better

do that.. i did it to my wifes old car and it turned out great! i did spend alot of time with a sander though... it lasted longer than the car did

it does look kinda funny rolling paint on your car with a roller but it turns out great! alot better than any of the spray paint jobs i have seen...

I've done both methods and as long as you know how to prep and spray right it turns out great, real automotive paint is basically just bigger, better spray paint anyway....

roll on gloss white rustoleum......come out great!!! i restore cars for a living and paint cars... for what you are doing red scuff pad,solvent wash and roll....on a hot sunny day she'll flow out better than rattle can you'll get a more even finish..trust me we did my buddy's beater yota last summer dark blue looks sweet ....i buffed it to be a dick it came out better then some shops spray

depending on how bad the body is and how nice you want it......if you jeep is pretty good just get some red scuff pads (or 320 grit paper) scuff the whole jeep that you want to paint, clean the dust off (compressed air works best but a clean towel will do), prep-sol or pre-clean or some kind of solvent paint prep the body,let dry, tape off where you don't want paint, and ROLL...a good roller makes a difference,make sure the paint doesn't react with the previous rattle can paint first do a little test spot, get at least a gallon and a half (2qts. extra) do it on a warm day (if you can) and rustoleum takes a long *** time to dry but it's tough , has a great finish and will be cheaper then 20 rattle cans..

So go and get a gallon and a half of rustoleum and a paint roller for like painting a house?

HAHAHAHA so you restore cars and paint cars and your telling this guy to use roll on paint!? Dude i dont even think macco would do some **** like that! With what your looking to do "Mud Digger" use 400 grit paper by hand with a red scotch bright pad over top (pad on the non gritty side of the paper kinda like useing it as a sanding block but its soft) This helps not you not have any finger sand marks. If you dont know what your doing 320 will leave more noticable sand scratches in your paint. then prime (urathane primer) any spots where uve gone down to the metal or have large noticable scratches. Then wait to dry, repeat sanding process lightly, degrease useing acrysol or some other cleaner.then paint. Thin first coat, medium coats after that useing a 50/50 overlap pattern. also go the distance of the panel so you wont have runs and uneven looking paint.

yes a restore cars and for going over a rattle can job it will do fine..
