HAHAHAHA so you restore cars and paint cars and your telling this guy to use roll on paint!? Dude i dont even think macco would do some **** like that! With what your looking to do "Mud Digger" use 400 grit paper by hand with a red scotch bright pad over top (pad on the non gritty side of the paper kinda like useing it as a sanding block but its soft) This helps not you not have any finger sand marks. If you dont know what your doing 320 will leave more noticable sand scratches in your paint. then prime (urathane primer) any spots where uve gone down to the metal or have large noticable scratches. Then wait to dry, repeat sanding process lightly, degrease useing acrysol or some other cleaner.then paint. Thin first coat, medium coats after that useing a 50/50 overlap pattern. also go the distance of the panel so you wont have runs and uneven looking paint.

No joke. Roll on is getting popular with a bunch of drift guys I'm friends with. Supposedly that and a good buff is supposed to work decent. And if you figure you lay it on thick, it'd be good protection offroad and hard to scratch.

When I got my cherokee the po rattle canned it gloss black and has orange racing stripes on hood and a 3" thick stripe down sides. don't look bad but not great either. I want to rattle can it white. Wat should I do to prep it and anyone have any tips/hints? I really like white cherokees and miss my 96 white one. Thanks
Oh and if anyone could please post a pic of my jeep it would be great. I can't post them from my phone but I can email them to someone if they can post them for me

I painted my XJ using like 8 cans of White RustOleum Acryllic Automotive Enamel, 3 cans of Krylon Gloss Clear Coat, 8 cans of Rustoleum Automotive Primer, some 1000 grit sandpaper, and tons of masking tape.
I just took the 1000 grit, put it on a sanding block, and sanded the original paint till it dulled up, then I wiped the jeep down with some shop rags to get the loose paint dust off. After that, I laid down a 3 coats of primer and let it dry for a couple hours. After that was done, I sanded the primer coat down a little and wiped the dust off again. After that was done, I laid down the 3 coats of white enamel, and let it dry for a day. After that, I went out and wetsanded the XJ with the 1000 grit. After that was done and the water dried off, I laid down a couple coats of clear and then it was done!!
here's a couple pics of my XJ. You can't tell I spray painted either.
Just look in my pics to get an idea of what the paint looks like.

i tried spray painting black first before the rustoleum.. i stripped the old paint, sanded it, washed it in mineral spirits, then washed it in water.. only to have it look like black clouds.. ive spray painted alot of stuff before but a car is a huge area.. i sanded all the spray paint off and was done with the rustoleum in half the time and it turned out way better... just my .02c

then again i dont have a garage so that might have had something to do with it.. the rustoleum, once buffed, looks great! just thin it a bit.. and you dont get any streaks or anything... I dont know what colors it comes in but eveything at lowes was like 60$ included a rattle-can rustoleum primer and clear coat

flat black and gray primer spray paint will be even...i'm talking colors and gloss....i have never seen a gloss rattle can job that didn't have dry spots..the spray pattern is way to small for a whole car it's nearly impossible to keep it wet enough to flow out and dry enough not to run....and a saw someone that said automotive paint is just a bigger version of spray paint...when you find urethane at autozone for $5 a can let me know..a rustoleum (or equivilent) outdoor paint will take the weather and sun far better then a rattle can enamel or laquer..it will dry to a harder finish and take far more abuse .....I vote ROLLER and rustoleum..
