Default Original Goodyear wrangler mt/rs

Yesterday i scored a set of the original non kevlar mt/rs 33x12.5x15 off of craigslist for $140 with about half tread (slightly less). One needs a patch because of metal pin we found in them i've heard good things about these tires, especially since they come stock on the rubicons, anybody else have any input? what kind of life can i expect out of these tires at this point? The mud claw radials that came on the jeep are pretty worn down and an upcoming trip to Rausch creek caused me to look around and find these because i'm not in a position to spend $700 on a new set of BFG A/Ts at the moment. Thanks guys

Dont see many of the old style anymore..but ive heard lots of good about em.

You could probably get another 15k out of em

Im running some Rubicon take offset. They are tough tires, they do great on trails, mud, sidehillin. They get louder as they wearndown but pretty quiet. They sucked in the rain is the only bad thing. I run my fronts at 12psi and rears at 10psi and haven't lost a bead yet. I actually smashed my valve stem on the rear one time it lost all its air and I wheeled the rest of the day no problem. Of course mine are load range e, that helps a lot.

I've only ever used one set of those (then they quit making them), and I liked them. Stuck to rocks good, and did good on the trails I run. Never wore mine out though, poked a hole in the sidewall of one and took them off, so I cant really comment on tread wear, but they seemed to be wearing quicker than the BFG KM1's did (which I've had a few times, and currently running on my XJ).
FWIW, I would have bought them again, and there's not many tires I've liked enough to want to buy again.

I ran the pre Kevlar Mtr's on one of my previous Jeeps I loved those tires If they still made them I probably would have passed on my KM2's.

I run about 28psi on 33x12.5x33 dick cepic mud countries.do the chalk test draw a line across the tire and go down your road a bit and look at the chalk it will tell if you are running to much or not enough

TJs are not always lighter than XJs. A 4cyl., soft top TJ probably is, but a 6 cyl., hard top TJ is not.

To weigh in on the OPs Q, the original MT/R was a great tire. A friend had them on his TJ (31" tires) and he really liked them. I just bought a set of Treadwright Guarddogs (285-75-R16 = 33") and have an identical tread to the original MT/R. They were even made with MT/R carcasses! Cannot wait to get them mounted up. You made a good purchase and I think you'll be happy with them.

Oh, and you'll probably be fine running them at 25 to 30 psi on the street and 10 psi out on the trails.

X2, I ran them on my 96 XJ, they were Great. Had great traction on all surfaces including blacktop (wet or dry). Only bad thing about them is they wear really bad if you're like me & not don't rotate your tires when you should..... I wish they still made them, I'd pick up a set today.....

Lucky you, Great score...

Thank you! I'll look into the treadwrights for my next set definitely once these tires need replaced. I can't wait for this summer to really test them out up at the nearest offroad park (Rausch Creek) on the trails and down at the drive on beach in Delaware on the sand
