Yesterday i scored a set of the original non kevlar mt/rs 33x12.5x15 off of craigslist for $140 with about half tread (slightly less). One needs a patch because of metal pin we found in them
i've heard good things about these tires, especially since they come stock on the rubicons, anybody else have any input? what kind of life can i expect out of these tires at this point? The mud claw radials that came on the jeep are pretty worn down and an upcoming trip to Rausch creek caused me to look around and find these because i'm not in a position to spend $700 on a new set of BFG A/Ts at the moment. Thanks guys

Ive heard a lot of good things about them.
Cant comment on them from personal experience, but ive always wanted a set.
Dont see many of the old style anymore..but ive heard lots of good about em.
You could probably get another 15k out of em

Im running some Rubicon take offset. They are tough tires, they do great on trails, mud, sidehillin. They get louder as they wearndown but pretty quiet. They sucked in the rain is the only bad thing. I run my fronts at 12psi and rears at 10psi and haven't lost a bead yet. I actually smashed my valve stem on the rear one time it lost all its air and I wheeled the rest of the day no problem. Of course mine are load range e, that helps a lot.
I've only ever used one set of those (then they quit making them), and I liked them. Stuck to rocks good, and did good on the trails I run. Never wore mine out though, poked a hole in the sidewall of one and took them off, so I cant really comment on tread wear, but they seemed to be wearing quicker than the BFG KM1's did (which I've had a few times, and currently running on my XJ).
FWIW, I would have bought them again, and there's not many tires I've liked enough to want to buy again.

I'm happy to hear so many people like them, re assured me of my purchase. I love the tread on these things and can't wait to get em mounted. What PSI you thinking i should do? I mostly do around town driving with highway on the weekends and occasionally gettin a lil mud on the tires

I run my mud claw 32s at 30psi right now which rides better than the 35psi they were at before. previous owner of he mt/rs had em on a 94 wrangler and he told me he had them at around 25psi

I ran a set on a tj and loved them i got about 40k miles out of them.tjs are lighter than xjs but awsome tire off rd.looks alot better than the new ones with kevlar.the only thing is wet pavement they are slippery.but it could of been the light jeep.they do get alittle louder after rotations
To weigh in on the OPs Q, the original MT/R was a great tire. A friend had them on his TJ (31" tires) and he really liked them. I just bought a set of Treadwright Guarddogs (285-75-R16 = 33") and have an identical tread to the original MT/R. They were even made with MT/R carcasses! Cannot wait to get them mounted up. You made a good purchase and I think you'll be happy with them.
Oh, and you'll probably be fine running them at 25 to 30 psi on the street and 10 psi out on the trails.

TJs are not always lighter than XJs. A 4cyl., soft top TJ probably is, but a 6 cyl., hard top TJ is not.
