One lift/axle question to rule them all
Initially I had bought a zone 3" lift that after much annoying deliberation I decided I'd let go to a budget conscious friend of mine.
Fast forward about 3 months I've come into a bunch more money after getting my CDL.
Purchase the superflex 4.5 RE kit. Seems to cover most all the bases.
With all that my jeep has going for it, the D35 obviously ain't cool.
I made plans to Disc swap an 8.25 and call it good.
couple weeks pass and I realize how little time I have working 70+ hours and the rest of the time I'm tired.
I've always known about the 8.8 but wasn't sure I wanted to tackle or shell out for gears and what not.
I'm only running 31s
Which heckle all you want I'm really happy with. I maintain a lot of drivability and I've seen some really capable 31" tire jeeps.
Question is:
Is it worth it to find a 4.10 geared 8.8
Regear the front for 31s
Go through shock mount ordeal etc?
Because I really don't want a dog with 3.55s
This thing is 80/20 street/off road
Or get an 8.25 slap discs on and be done and cool with it at 3.55 gears?

Unless you plan on going up to 35s don't waste your money and time on a 8.8. Go 8.25 and don't worry and save money. 4.10s will be nice for in town but if you hit a lot of highway then the 3.55 will be better. Not much lost with 31s on stock gearing.

slap the 8.25 in there. or even keep the D35 till it blows. 8.8 ground clearance isn't the best, it wasn't really enjoyable until I stepped up to 35" tires
D35 will go a lot longer than you think it might, even when wheeling/rock crawling

Really appreciate all the replies guys I definitely just needed a sounding board for all these options ideally you want to take care of a lot of things while it's up in the air getting the lift on but as I keep reminding myself this truly is still just a daily driver I'm not going to be beating the **** out of it......often
just really wanted to maintain some stock drivability and read that the 4.10s complimented 31s and set u up for upgrading
BUT! I like saving time and money and for whatever reason I was dead set on ditching my d35 but maybe I just ought not to

I said I'd never get away from 31s too. On 33s shopping for 35s.
Anywho, if 31s make you happy, i'd spend the money elsewhere. at least break it first! add winch or something else

Keep the D35 till it goes BOOM then consider another. The 3.55 gears with 31" tires aren't that bad for 80% street either and the strength will be ok most likely with a 31" tire, stock gear, open differential.

like others have mentioned, maybe hold back on the gears. I'm usually for deeper gears, but if you end up going with a 33" tire later you'll definitely be wishing you had gotten 4.56's instead. at that time you may have a better perspective on which axle you want to go with. Play the long game and plan for what you will want 2 years from now, not just what you want right now!
