Hello,

I've been doing a lot of reading and a lot of garage work and now I think I need some interactive help. I finally got my 98 Cherokee classic back on he road and I've been doing some standard upgrades to it; which I would like to share in another post.

My current project is this WJ LCA install. After a few days of fighting them to get lined up and a few days of being concerned about the possibility of hitting the lower shock mount I finally got the driver side CA installed. I was very pleased. Until I noticed how close it sits to the axle mount. See pic. Fyi I went the oblong bushing to the unibody mount

This is with the weight of the vehicle on flat ground. I haven't read anywhere of this being an issue with this conversion. I'm hoping for some insight. Here's a pic of the passenger side stock LCA for good measure.

Thanks in advance

BCIC

That is very common when using any stock control arm. That's why I went ahead and just bought the rough country bent lowers. If my tires rub it won't hurt much since they're round. The stock arms limit your flex considerably.

Oh OK cool. Yea I'm running 31s on stock rims. So my main goal with the WJ control arms was to avoid the rub. I was also thinking of the RE3700. They look a bit smaller in diameter so maybe they wont rub as much. I'll check out the rough country. I'd like to avoid cutting away at the CA mount and the lower shock mount.

So if anyone has any experience with those Rubicon's and 31s I'd like to hear about it

I have the RE 3705 lca's. They are same diameter as the 3700, have had no rubbing issues running 33X12.50 tires.

OP, how much lift do you have? I'm going to install the WJ control arms soon didn't know they'd be that snug of a fit there.

Are you off set at all though? I am not and I rubbed the stock CA a lot.

Only about 1.75 maybe 2 inch lift. Apparently its pretty common to need to trim the brackets and possibly the lower shock mount a tad. I'd rather not do that of there's another arm that won't rub much

Damn that's unfortunate to hear that. I will be lifting about 2" and would rather not bottom out on the mount every time I hit a bump.

Guess I'll be trimming some of it off.

Well if you end up doing that I'd love a picture or two. I get nervous about cutting things I don't know about

[QUOTE=birthday_cake_ice_cream;2911928]Are you off set at all though? I am not and I rubbed the stock CA a lot.

When I intalled lift I installed 31X10.5 on the stock XJ rims, no rubbing at all. Was sitting at around 4" of lift. Running 33X12.50 with no rubbing at present at around 5" of lift, new rims are offset, unfortuately i cant recall what the amount is. If you want I can check when I get home on Monday.

Hmmmm so you had 31s with no off set, stock rims and no CA rubbing. Sounds like I should order the RE3700s and test them out. I suppose I can return them if they rub too much and try to make the WJs work. I like having my full turn radius.

I will be selling my brand new WJ arms at a cheaper price if the REs work

Update:

Got the driver side RE CA arm on and there doesn't appear to be any rubbing. Haven't driven it yet, but it looks good. There's plenty of room in the CA bracket as well. So, stock rims and 31 duratracs

Be careful threading the zerts on. They are a tight fit and I broke one off.

Default Newbie question

Just put ZJ v8 coils and isolators on my 95 XJ today. Gave me 2inchs of lift. Think I want to try this upgrade. Which control arms shoukd I use to replace my stock LCA's? WJ rear lowers? ZJ rear lowers? WJ front lowers? I've looked at quite a few forums on this and it still is unclear to me which I should use for the most simple install for a 2inch lift. Thanks for any help! Appreciate it!
