You'll probably only be able to get 2.5 inches of lift out of the GC coils. If you really don't want to spend the money to get some lift coils from a suspension company, you can try installing some coil boosters. Autozone sells a set of 2 inch coil spring boosters for around $25. They're basically rubber cups that go on the top of the coil where it mounts. If you're doing 4.5 inches of lift up front, you'll want to run a long arm setup. This means you need longer upper and lower control arms, which you can buy from companies like rough country or zone offroad. Short arm lifts that are above 3-3.5 inches usually don't flex that well. It's all your choice though, if you want to go cheap you don't have to do it. I'd spend a little extra because it will pay off in the long run though.

A bastard pack is just a nickname lol
Basically you just take the main and secondary leafs from a Chevrolet S10 or Blazer, and add them to your XJ's stock leaf pack. Since the S10's leaf packs mount on the bottom of their axles and the XJs mount on top of the axle, you get a couple inches of lift. Its probably the cheapest way to lift the rear the right way lol.
