Anyone here at CF done this? I see a lot of Wranglers but no XJ/MJ ones. Just looking for some pros, cons and problems before I start this swap. Thanks.

Yes. One 3.0L 4cyl gas engine for a 3.0L 5cyl diesel one.

I went through some of your posts and it looks like the 4 banger sorta blew up? That... That makes me sad. Your work on it is/was a big inspiration for my Jeep.

Starter "self engaged" while driving on the interstate. It exploded, and took out the teeth on the flywheel, damaged the CPS, reluctor ring and clutch. And cracked the bellhousing. I have enough spare parts to put her back together. Just going for something different now. Lol.

Thanks. That is who I am getting everything through.
As for my tank, I am going to order a new one. The fuel pump I have now is a 14psi TBI unit. Just enough to use as my kicker pump.

Any ideas on what caused the starter to do that? And just out of my own curiosity, may I ask what makes you want something different? Are you not happy with how the stroked 4 cylinder turned out (aside from the incident with the starter)? Sorry to hijack the thread...

I would first suspect that because the starter engaged while the vehicle was being operated a short to ground at or in either the starter solenoid, wiring or ignition switch.

This is indirectly relevant, sometimes during startup the bendix gear doesn't retract from the flywheel or flexplate after the vehicle has started, or a defective ignition switch or faulty linkage, the ignition key can gets stuck in the start position, those mostly result in groin up teeth on the on the flywheel or flexplate and starter bendix gear, worse case explode the battery or cause a fire that burns the vehicle up.

Something inside the ECU shorted out. Just rewired majority of it and got her running again.

As for different, sometimes I get bored and change things up. The engine turned out great. It's actually going into a friends MJ when I yank it out. I built it to shut up a few people who said it couldn't be done. Now with more 4cyls within the club, I need something else to set it apart from the norm.

Cool stuff. Are you going to be modifying/making a new sump or just letting it sit since you have enough lift? (At least if memory serves...)

I just picked up a 93 AX 15 for the 617 Swap. I hope I got the right one! Super hard to find here, came out of a 93 Cherokee. My Comanche has the AX 5 in it. I am starting to gather parts for the swap now. Now that I have the AX 15, I am getting the Mercedes over to my garage and putting it on the engine stand to start the swap. I am ordering everythign from mercedes diesel 4x4. How do you measure this 3/4 part? Also, it comes withough Tcase, but I have several 231 Tcases from Wranglers laying around. IIRC< there are two different splines of the Tcase? The guy bringing over the trans says his trans is 28 spline, what are the two offerings, and if I have wrong one, it is pretty easy from what I remember, especially if doing the shift yoke eliminator at same time, to switch in right spline?

Okay- just threw the trans in the back of the boys jeep. I am looking at trans adapters. and there is a couple of choices- one is the mercedesdiesel4x4 here:http://www.mercedesdiesel4x4.com/product_p/a-mb202.htm and the doomsday diesel here: https://www.doomsdaydiesel.net/produ...wkeJw6R9oseMbs

I notice one comes with the flywheel, which of course got my wheels spinning- what do I do about the flywheel ? How does the engine and trans mate regarding the flywheel issue?
