Default oil leak 97 xj

I have a oil leak coming from some where , its almost looks like its coming from the oil pan. I can smell oil burning when I get out so it must be getting on the block?

I have a 97 also. Mine started leaking from the oil pan. I replaced the gasket and never had a problem with it after.

It's common also to have leaks where the oil filter adapter joins to the engine block. There are 3 O-rings in there that get hard, and leak. Check the area around the oil filter.
It's a nuisance to change these, it takes a T-50 Torx bit to remove it, but there's not enough room between the engine and the frame to use a ratchet. I drove the bit part out of a 3/8" drive T-50 bit, and used 2 10mm box-end wrenches to turn it.
The O-rings are available from the dealer, cheap enough.
