Default Oil filter relocation?

1997 XJ 4.0. It seems any thread that has the word "oil" is beating a dead horse.
But, I cannot find any info good/bad on relocating the oil filter and possibly adding a cooler inline with it.

I would love to move the oil filter to make easier to remove/replace, given how it's right on top of the starter and I have to take out the oil press switch to really get to it.

Mainly want to do it for "possible" convience on future oil changes.

Any inputs?

you can remove the oil filter adapter to make the change easier but ive seen alot of naysay about it. 1. i think you need to use a smaller filter, which is not good and 2. it sits really close to motor mount bolt and could be prone to puncture in extreme circumstances.

You shouldn't have to remove anything to get to the filter. I just crawled under my XJs and twisted the sucker off. Do you have a picture of the area you're working in because that sounds pretty weird that somethings in your way.

94XJ and 98XJ I did it on. aswell as YJs.

But, there have been numerous cases that in any kind of heavy wheeling, the oil filter collides with the engine mounts and gets punctured. Factory did it for a reason.
