OK, so I've got 2 pairs of the Walmart Baja offroad lights, I upgraded the wiring in them and run 130 watt bulbs, they're pretty bright, but I think there's gotta be something better. I was thinking HIDs, but I know *nothing* about them. Mainly I'm wondering how much heat they produce compared to halogen bulbs? Also, comparatively how bright are HIDs to high wattage halogens(IE my 130watts)?

Well, for lights originally intended for the HIDs I'm sure its fine. I'm wanting to put them into a cheapo plastic housing. I'm mostly worried about heat issues. I can't imagine they'd be much hotter than an equivelant halogen bulb, but I just want to make sure.

How's going?
I have the rampage h4 housings running a set of h4 hid high low bulbs in a 3k compared to the halogen...there is no comparison the hid is very very bright. Definatly not road legal.

You may have a fitment issue with your existing housing. HID bulbs are longer so you will need to be sure there is enough room. Also the ballast will need to be mounted fairly close to the bulb. Light output will increase with the HID and the plastic housing is fine for HID setup. I would be more worried about the 130W bulbs melting the housing as those produce more heat than HID bulbs.

I have the same lights and have been debating doing the same thing because I like the lights for the low cost; I do expect them to put out less heat with HID's. I havent measured for bulb fitment yet, but another thing I have been considering is the wiring as each bulb is going to have its own ballast, which your going to have to mount somewhere. They claim the balasts to be waterproof but I dont expect them to last long being out in the elements so you will likely want to mount them remotely in the engine bay or inside...not sure if its a bad idea to extend the leads going from the ballast to the HID bulb itself as there may be too much resistance resulting in poor/no operation...I could be wrong though.
