I have a 93 xj 6.5in lift on 35s and have been wheeling with other vehicles and this one but have not got together a good, comprehensive trail kit. as i am looking to get into more difficult wheeling, im going to take out my back seat and have tons of room for whatever i need to bring. i was wondering what would be the best things to bring with me.

here are some things that i thought of to bring, but dont know what brands/sizes/types are most reliable/best performance etc.

-tow/recovery strap (size? length?)
-light ratchet straps
-chains (size? length?)
-jack (hi lift? bottle? jack stands?)
-tool box
-spare parts (which ones?)
-axe? shovel?
-first aid kit
-food/water
-anything else y'all take. specific brands/sizes/etc. would be very helpful. anything at all... nothing too big too small just want to hear EVERYTHING.

any and all input greatly appreciated

thank you very much for the link, but i am more wondering what types of brands/sizes people use that prove to be the most effective. a little bit more specifics would help me alot with guidance on my puchases.

every situation is different you might winch one guy out, use 2 30 foot tow straps, tie 2 jeeps together for double the power, also i had a situation where we had two winches on one jeep the guy fell off the edge of a hill and we had one holding him up while one pulled him out used about 4 tow straps 8-10 drings, 2 winches, ****** block and one tree saver so just get what you think is best for you and go from there i bought the rugged ridge 30,000 lbs set it comes with 6 foot tree saver, 30 foot strap, 2 d rings, gloves, ****** block, and a line damper. its a good starter kit and build from there. also for tools find a nice set of tools with a box or something i am going to be getting the one from crescent from cosco it has all kinds of sockets, pliers, and everything simple you need and like 100 bucks i think. and like serious said if you have something that is special to a job that may happen then take it with just have a small tool box in the back for that stuff.

spare tire! and every fluid your jeep takes. I've used every fluid at least once on the trail

I really want onboard air. I have air tools so why not bring some with. also to air tires up for the drive home
and my wrangler buddy is going to set up an onboard welder. and a winch eventually

In my experience I would make a kit with the following:
First and foremost..

The "oh **** bag" for zombie apocolypse/wheeling.
-shelvable food, water, cooking pot, smoking pot beer, matches, salt, pepper, change of clothes and shoes, toilet paper, pistol, hunting knife.
Jackets and blankets incase you end up staying the night.


For wheeling..
complete set of spare fuses(had a 30amp blow on me, midtrail, left me stranded 4 hrs)
5 gallons of gas (maybe for your rig, your friends rig, signal fire, etc)
Lil wood for fire if necessary in your area.(i live in the desert, little to no wood)
At least 50 foot 250lb rope (friend broke tow strap, I substituted, doubling it up a few times. )
Spare tire(s)
Can of coke(cleans battery terminals)
Electrical tape and gaffers tape(better than duct in my opinion.)
Spare hoses to and from radiator(junk yard ones are ok, as long as they get you home)
Spare vacuum line(I use small sprinkler drip line. cheap, effective)
Gallon of coolant, gallon of water incase the lower hose blows off and you have zero.
Cb radio(stupid, I know, but its worth reminding about)
fully charged battery and properly working alternator before you roll.

For recovery:
High lift Jack and 1 25' log chain. With a hook on each end of the highlift jack.
30' of strong cable, with one hoop on the each end.
A few clevises.
Good 30ft tow strap.
Air compressor system. Autozone has good kits for 80 bucks.
Hand saw
spare tire


For safety:
fire extinguisher

For comfort:
Boots,
rain suit
extra clothes
gloves

-light ratchet straps- good idea
-chains-tire chains maybe....i never have packed them here in Idaho, and i'v been in snow up to my windows
-jack-hi lift a must - bottle jack buy if you have a hi lift probably won't use
-stands- if you plan on doing some extensive trail repair might need em'
-tool box- with all of the wrenches and sockets you might need,screwdrivers,alen wrenches- i just have a husky all in one kit that stays back there
-spare parts- only if extensive trail repair is in your future
-axe-i dont have one i cant decide if i need one
shovel- yes
-first aid kit-yes
-food/water for the day
-spare fluids- oil, anti freeze, ATF, Washer fluid
- i carry a tarp for misc. use
-lug wrench
-fire extinguisher
thats about it ill shoot a pic of the trunk box i keep it all in later

pleaz don't use a chain guys unless you are pullin out a civic ive seen first hand wat chain does when it goes and it aint funny (chain broke off my buddys brand new chevy 2500hd pullin out a yota and it f***ed up his truck bad broke the windshield and creased his hood when it let go. so if ur hammerin on it tryin to get a buddy out never use a chain it could hurt your rig or anyone near them when they break. use a strap, if it breaks it will just fall unlike a chain

i keep a high lift, tool box, spare fluids, rtv, a case of mre's 5 gallon gas can, straps with out hooks, clevis's, flash lighs, start log, first aid kit and fire extingiusher. dont forget to put on some tow hooks if you dont have any. i didnt and i needed them not too long ago. if i didnt have my hitch my jeep would still be sitting on the diffs.

Tire plugs/patch kit, I kept some in the glove box of my KJ ran over a thorn, plugged it got me home, Also saw a crawler up at Disney Ok slice his sidewall on a rock and they used several plugs, and got it home.

On the chain note: If you do decide to carry them, Dont be like the guy in the truck and jerk them they are used for steady pressure i.e. in conjunction with a winch or as in the story above where they tied the two jeeps together Chains are like any other tool if used improperly they will fail.
