you have the ax-15? If so it should be the same bellhousing. If you have the internal slave on your current one you'll need to convert it to external. Also the shifter sits back a bit father so you'll likely need to trim the trans tunnel

Not directly related to your question, but I put a NV3550 in my CJ7 in place of the T176. I got a conversion from Advance Adapters that came with a bell housing adapter and all the mounts (it also came with the tranny, but that was an option you didn't have to get). It aslo took some machining to mount up the Dana 300 TC. I don't think you'd have those issues with a NP231. If the Renix uses the same bellhousing as the 258's, I'd bet you could use that CJ adapter and then fab your own mounts. Keep in mind the 3550 is significantly longer than a lot of other transmissions. It was waaay longer than my CJ tranny...

nah wrangler bell housings are the same as cherokee ones.
it's more complicated with the ba/10 though - output splines are different (you'll need to swap the TC as well), and swap the clutch master/slave with the correct external one for the ax-15/nv3550. You'll also have to swap the pilot bushing for the swap IIRC.

Essentially in your case you need to follow the steps necessary to fit an external slave AX-15 in place of your BA/10, and then just substitute a nv3550. Procedure should be the same.

it came in 00-01 XJs.
Check out this writeup of the swap. lots of info in there http://www.jeeptech.com/convtrans/ax15swap.html
you'll need to get a crossmember also, IIRC you need to move it back ~4"

well you'll need to install a posilock cable or non-disconnect shafts and seals since the transfer case you need for the swap doesn't have the vacuum tubes to control the axle vacuum motor.

"used in 00-01 in SE models with 4.0L I6 engines"
what is the rarity of finding one of these things? SE models seem fairly common but I guess I've never looked at the transmission
I read that the early nv3550's in wranglers had issues. this guy bought one new for $975 in 2010 http://classicbroncos.com/forums/sho...68&postcount=5 to avoid any issues
I was thinkng buy one of those then sell my current transmission and hopefull come out around $700 investment. what do you think. junk yard swap or buy brand new?
