"used in 00-01 in SE models with 4.0L I6 engines"
what is the rarity of finding one of these things? SE models seem fairly common but I guess I've never looked at the transmission
I read that the early nv3550's in wranglers had issues. this guy bought one new for $975 in 2010 http://classicbroncos.com/forums/sho...68&postcount=5 to avoid any issues
I was thinkng buy one of those then sell my current transmission and hopefull come out around $700 investment. what do you think. junk yard swap or buy brand new?

pretty rare, but not terribly so (at least in 2door models). AX-15 and NV3550 are pretty much exactly the same exterior and mounting wise so anything meant for an external slave ax-15 should also work on the nv3550.
As for selling your old transmission, maybe - but 'd say it's a long shot. The only people who buy used ba/10s are people who don't know what they're doing. I'd just use that tranny if the deal goes through and grab a crossmember and whatever else you need from an ax-15 XJ (or a nv3550 if you can find one). Junkyard parts should be fine.

oh ok. I guess he'd need to figure out what to do to use his mechanical speedo in place of the electronic one on the new np231 too...

Not to mention you could just do the manual mod. Slide the fork over and put the clip back in.
