Default NSS problems

my reverse lights wont work so im guessing my NSS is all dirty in side so me and my dad tempted to take it off but it just would not come off. we didnt pry it too hard thinking we may break it and the jeep would have to be towed somewhere. how easily are NSS broken when prying them off? and how hard should they be to be pulled off?

also is it possible to break any part of the transmission when trying to pry off the switch?

thanks,
joma

Here's a good 'how to' for your NSS.. In addition to the directions there, I sprayed a little liquid wrench on it before I started takin' mine off.. Make sure it's in neutral before you remove it with a BIG screwdriver or pry tool. I found when I 'twisted' the screwdriver at first instead of trying to 'lever' it in the space available it popped right off.. Have fun with it!

They do break when coming off if you lever on them too hard. I've taken one that was cracked and chipped and put it back together but they are never the same after that.

If you break it taking it off just order one from carpartswholesale.com

Cheap and mine it working very well.

When i was trying to get my back up lights working i cleaned the nss and didn't work. It ended up being corrosion inside the light sockets. So i went to the junkyard and pulled like 5 of them as spares. I'd give that a try also if cleaning the nss doesn't work.

Some of the early XJs, Renix for sure, had no reverse lights if the "trans" fuse was blown/corroded in the fusebox under the dash.......
