noise coming from rear
i just did a 3 inch RC lift on my 93 xj and im getting a clunking noise in the rear? i just ordered a t-case drop figuring that this will solve my problem.
ps i didnt drive it more than 2 feet to hear the noise/vibration? first time jeep owner/ owning or working on a lifted jeep.... all advise is very helpful. if you need more info just ask and there wasno noise before.
thanks

with a 3 inch lift you shouldnt need a t case drop already, i would try to figure out what is causing your issue first
i wish i had an idea to help you... take a picture of where your rear driveshaft is coming out of your transfer case

i would say driveshaft u joints... normally the cause of most vibrations... however the ebst fix for noises is you... they cant be diagnosed over the internet... all anybody can do is to same all the moving parts on your XJ...

Check your motor and trans mounts while your at it.
One more thing, make sure your exhaust isn't tapping your crossmember.

Pull the shafts and check all of the joint caps for pitting inside the caps. It can cause a bind that makes the shaft ears hit the yoke ears. Also spin the output shafts by hand and listen to the t-case for chain slap or worn fork bushings.

How would BPE get rid of a clunk in the rear? Just wondering....

dboy: Measure your pinion angle. With the factory shaft, you need the pinion to be parallel with the output shaft (if you have axle wrap, you'll have to address that because it may allow the pinion to rotate under acceleration). If it's not parallel, you'll have to use shims or transfer case drop to adjust it. The angle on your yokes looks pretty normal for 3" lifted XJ. If you have a GoPro or mountable camcorder you can mount it so you can see the shaft at the pinion and output shaft angles and watch for binding or axle wrap (pinion vertical rotation). This can also show you thinks like exhaust movement and other sources of noise or vibrations.
