New XJ owner with lift, help needed
Hey guys I just got a 96 xj with a lift that's about 4.5". The problem Is that it death wobbles badly. I already got new tires, rough country adj control arms top and bottom, new steering stabilizer as well. It has am adjustable trac bar and I got 91 wrangler brake lines coming for the the e-brake. What else do I need to do besides this. Do I need a longer drive shaft and where can I get sway bar end extensions?
This will be m winter car mainly and will see some mudding once it's ready. For summer I have my z which Is a completely diff type of car.

Did you buy the jeep with the lift? If so, i would try doing an alignment.
Most suspension manufacturers make extended sway bar links or disconnects. I would suggest going with the disconnects to get the full flex of your front suspension.

I just bought the control arms and got them last night. Will be installing them very soon. Alignment is in the list of things to do but not till I have everything needed install. Thank you very much for welcoming me in, I can't wait to drive this thing in the snow and mudding too . If I can I will Post a picture of it but don't think I can from my phone. Thanks everyone for the help so far.

Not long ago, I used to have death wobble all the time. Now, i have basically eliminated it. I noticed that when I got my RC lift, it had an adjustable trac bar, but it had a tie rod end instead of the double shear end. So, I just bought a double shear end and a HD trac bar bracket that drops the stock mounting height about 3/4 of an inch. This is so because your trac bar should be basically parallel to one of your steering rod components, i forget which one it is but you will notice if you look under the front of your jeep. They recommend the track bar for more than i think 3 inches of lift. It's a lot stronger, less movement, and you know that it is solid unlike the ball jointed tie rod end that i could never tighten in all the way. But anyways. it helped alot, now i just have to adjust my steering cuz the wheel isnt aligned straight I would also check your front ball joints to check for play and/or wheel hub bearings because that can sure make it shake even more than it should if you hit a bump.

I will have to look into that, whats the price cause I am limited in funds and I still need to tune up both my cars.

I got my double shear trac bar drop kit for 90 bucks from rusty's, which was the only place that had my size rod end. But, if you are planning on getting a better trac bar, I would say to get one because most of the beefier ones come with a drop bracket and a double shear rod end.
As for your driveshaft, I am pretty sure that they recommend either a transfer case drop or an extended rear driveshaft with an sye for any lift over 3", but that shouldnt be causing your death wobble. That would only cause really bad vibrations in your driveline.

alright I will look into that once I have it running safely on the road and able to feel the vibrations from the driveshaft. Where would i find extended driveshafts from or is what I read correct that an automatic one will work on it? Also SYE what is that, I dont really understand it properly yet.

When all else is in excellent shape and the trac bar lenght is correct allowing axle to center between the frame rails; the next prime culpret is too little caster. Gojeep,XJ,info is a great site for how to info on front end and many other XJ projects.
