New XJ owner with a headache!
First off, Love the Forum! More than enough information in here that just makes the mind spin leaning and dreaming of what I want to do next.
Background on the XJ:
2001 Jeep Cherokee Limited
Silver all around, even bumper corners
142k when purchased
Little bit of rust on the rockers and drivers floor around the drain is rusted to a point where I could almost put a finger through it.
Suspension is pretty soft and worn and tires are mixed match and balding in the rear.
Got it home and found a decent oil leak. Replaced Valve cover gasket and then had to take it in to replace the oil filter adaptor gasket. It needed a little heat to get moving. So far oil leak has subsided. I purchased the rear main seal and new oil pan gasket but the oil has stopped. Probably could replace those just to say they have been replaced. I do plan on doing a rebuild next summer. Motor has a knock to it.
In the brown truck some where is a RE 3.5 Super Flex with leaf pack, track bar and mono shocks. New shoes are the Moab 16x8 wrapping in 32" Mickey MTZ's. This will be a DD and I know most will disagree with the 32's and keeping stock gearing. The area where I is pretty flat and I dont plan on rock climbing anywhere but light to medium trail use when I feel like seeing the back country. I am prepared with the thought of going to 4.56's. Quadratec was very pleasant to work with. Calling has its perks FYI....
I will post pictures of it tonight once i get home from work.

That's the problem. Just bought it & it already has a knock & he plans on waiting nearly a year to rebuild it.
My "tapping" lasted 4 days till I threw a rod thru the side of the block. Good luck waiting a year.
I hope you park it until you diagnose the knock. I thought mine was a lifter or valve. It was a very faint tapping.
Oh, yeah,...... welcome to CF.
Hey guys sorry for the weird first post!
It was basically a headache from reading all the information on here. I didn't add the picture like i had promised.
Here is a pic from the craigslist add. One of the better looking cherokees in the area.

Good lookin xj man. The 32s will look awesome, but your power and mpg will suffer a bit.
Some advice for the potential rebuild: look into swapping a different head onto the block. The 00-01 have 0331 heads which are prone to cracking. Also, build a stroker, because jeep.
