I found a a d44 at a local pick n pull today. Its diff cover is off however i couldn't move the pinion to count the teeth on the ring and pinion to get its gearing. Its on a lifted Xj and i saw a little 11.4 on the aide of the ring. So did i get lucky and find a decent 44 with 4.11s or no? Thanks guys

Is this a typo??

If it's not then no 11.4 has no reference to the gear ratio, not sure what it refers to but if it was in fact a 4.11 ratio and it had the ratio stamped in the ring gear it would be stamped 4.11, not backwards like you're suggesting.

The tag on the cover usually has the ratio, if the tag is even there. The D60 my friend and I tore apart with 4.11s had 41-10 stamped on the ring and pinion

It wasnt a typo, and its not tagged because the had like 8in blocks as a lift so Im sure there were running Atleast 35s. Anyways ill just go back tomorrow and find a way to count the teeth thanks guys

What i mean is i think the ring and pinion are aftermarket... I was just wondering if the 11.4 had any significance ha

I'm pretty sure that is the tooth count of the ring and pinion, respectively.

Yea, I don't think the 11.4 has a relation to the ratio, but that doesn't mean you're out of luck. If the R&P is aftermarket and it's coming out of a lifted vehicle chances are it's been regeared imo
