So I've been blessed with the opportunity to buy the setup I've been shopping for from a local friend
Beefed d30
-TJ brakes
-chromoly shafts
-new seals
-Aussie locker
-solid cover
-4.10
F8.8
-chromoly shafts
-solid cover
-4.10s
-bolt in ready
-Aussie

I have a 4.5RE superflex lift on now with 32s(31.6)
3.55ratio

Is the front locker invisible going down the road without 4wd engaged?
Being that I don't intend to run bigger tires will I be happy with 4.10s
She's a 70/30 DD/wheeler
Auto trans
99'

Thanks gents!

Its getting sexual up in here... And if 1300 for both axles isn't a good deal I'll have missed my guess

If I didn't know the guy personally... Or know how meticulous he was about using good parts I'd be iffy
But he's one of those can't sit still type. He finished this jeep but wants to scrap it to invest in his LJ

Its a fair deal indeed.

Pull the covers and inspect everything thoroughly, check out the wear pattern on the gears and any metal in the diff fluid, etc...

What can you expect??

For install - busted knuckles and some cursing...

After install - Fun... Lots of fun.

For as much wheeling as I do I don't think I want both lockers so which one should I leave in... it definitely is just a weekend warrior I'm getting a lot of good **** in these axles but I just think having 2 lockers is going to be unnecessary for my intended use.... plus winter driving I know the Front Locker if engaged is tolerable in the snow but combined with the rear Locker can cause problems under steering

IMO, Auto lockers can be tricky. I have no experience with that in the front, but in the rear in the snow you gotta be careful. Even on slippery roads where you don't want locker assist, it can engage and then things could get interesting.

That said, lots of guys here are running similar setups with no issues. But for my own preference, I avoid them. I have an E-locker in the front of my (now totaled) XJ and an Aussie in the 8.8. I hated the Aussie and it's getting tossed when the axles get swapped into my new XJ. When I sold my Swampers, they were all chunked up from the wheel hop with the Aussies.

I can deal with clicking from the front when in 2 wheel drive but to me when on pavement there is literally no point to having a rear locker other than to chew up your tires these actions are coming out of what would have been a dedicated trail rig and my buddy is trying to talk me into taking both lockers but will only charge me 1200 if I only want one so I think I can live with just having a locker in the front

Or put a selectable in the rear like I'm planning to do. I don't care what anyone says, I'd never put an auto locker in the front of any Jeep I own. I know, I know ... it's invisible on pavement - blah-blah. Not for me.

I have a 90 4.0l, AW4, 231 4 door. I bought it with 31s and 3.55 gears, I swapped to 4.10s and 33s. The acceleration is good. The speedometer is accurate w/ stock speedo gear, verified with GPS. I am happy with the ratio for a mostly DD.

As far as price, that is a good price. I have about $800 into an 8.8 in the rear and beefed up, regeared D30 in the front. I shopped around to find my parts, I don't think you can do the swap much cheaper using quality parts. That price doesn't include any kind of locker either. I do not have a locker in either axle (yet), so I can not speak on the drivability.

I see myself ditching the two aussies for a selectable rear in the future as well

Just from my own personal research, lockers are fine in any weather. You just have to adjust your driving in certain areas. Don't drive like a dumb-a**, and dumb s*** won't happen. I say leave both in and just get used to it.

My XJ is on DD duty, and does about 300 miles a week. I have a PowerTrax No-Slip in the parts pile waiting to go in. First time it see's snow, I'm going to a parking lot and seeing how it acts. Soon as I know, I'll be good to go anywhere.

See, you forget that you're not the only person on the road. There are some dumb asses out there that do dumb crap at the worst possible time and no matter how "used to it" you think you are, there will come a time when you are taken by surprise and all you can do is react. Remember that.
