i wouldnt say so....

through the past 2 years or so i've pulled from the junkyard and sold probably more than 5, plus the one that came off my MJ which i swapped out for an 8.8 (not sure how i feel about that 2 years later lol). I still run in to them in the junkyards, i just dont take them anymore.

Ok before you go buying a bunch of ECGS F8.8 builds or even build your own with all these bling parts, and still only have a F8.8 but without C-clips...

All New Currie RockJock D44

Or...
F8.8

This on the bottom...
All New Currie RockJock D44

Or this..
F8.8

This on the top (given no Front Upper mount but this is the only upper pict I have at the moment)...

All New Currie RockJock D44

Or this, F8.8..

With a larger pinion spline and shorter to fit better (JK D44 vs. F8.8)

at only about 3200$ total with Currie HP Axle package, Yukon Grizzly locker, complete new disc brake kit, any ratio (4.56-5.38), yoke, cover, bolt into xj perches and shock mounts, and ALL NEW.

This is BY FAR STRONGER then the F8.8 in every sense.

Stronger:
Tubes
Center
Gear set
Axle shafts
Outer axle bearings

Need to note:
*No need to worry about spinning axle tubes like the F8.8
*Better Ground clearance
*Smother bottom
*Correct width for Jeeps
*ALL NEW
*Super thick center section
*Super thick tubes
*Shorter pinion and centered (F8.8 is offset pinion) so more likely to bolt in without driveshaft issues.
*Professionally built by a Axle manufacture (Currie Enterprises)

Yes its not cheap. But those that want to buy New and want something strong, this is it.

You can have either high pinion or low pinion. In the rear a Low pinion is a bit stronger though.

Just something else to throw out there...

Oh and before you go thinking about a Ox Locker for the F8.8 remember Cable SUX! Beyond Suxs!

And dont even thought about a air actuator like some suggest..

would you want this hanging off the cover? I hope not...

I had to pull an ox locker from a 8.8 when changing housings (spun center) and it was the most frustrating thing I have ever done to an axle in my life. I would never, ever sell someone an OX locker for a C-clip axle after that experience.
On that note, a 8.8 with c-clip eliminator and HD shafts is a different story. Id take a 8.8 with c-clip eliminators over a 44 any day.
That rock jock sure is purdy though.

The price is the issue. I'm not paying $3200+ when I can get a used built 8.8 for half that price. And IMO built properly is stronger than a 44. Just my $.02

This is where your issue is...

There is NOT one item on a used built 8.8 that is stronger then the RockJock D44. And ESPECIALLY for 1/2 the price...

How did we get to comparing a Junkyard axle to a $3000+ custom axle?

Wait, did the 44 ring gear get bigger? Shafts get bigger? What is so much stronger in a rock jock 44 compared to an 8.8. C clip eliminator with alloy shafts and you are still half the price. Pinion is bigger, ring gear is bigger, although barely (1.31"vs 1.32") the axle shafts are bigger.
Weld the tubes, c clip eliminators, whatever locker you want and your good to go.

jk ring gear is 8.9" and the rubi rear shafts of the jk are 1.31 at the narrow spot and 32spline

Every other d44 has 1.24 shafts at the narrow part and an 8.5 ring gear compared to the 1.30/8.8 of the f8.8

I'm not familiar with what's in the new rj 44 though

Yes D44 JK, Ring gear got bigger.
Yes D44 JK, Pinion Bearings got bigger.
Yes D44 JK, Pinion got bigger.

Oh and you sir can not add I think?
F8.8 (avg) 250$
Ultimate 88 kit (superior is out of bus so the only one out there now) 500$
Detroit locker - 675$
Any ratio gear set - 160$
Master install kit - 75$
New perches shock mounts and bare min of products to remove old crap - 120$
Welding on of above - free or 75$ depends
New rotors - 80$
New calipers - 50$
New parking brake pads and hardware kit - 30$ (if you want to do it Right)
Flange adapter - 40$
Driveshaft mod for longer pinion so need shorter shaft - 50-100$
Gear setup (unless you know what you are doing) - 140$

Now how does that add up to less then 1/2 again??

I have seen MANY have tubes spin, and housing crack that use them in prerunners.

Sorry 49% cheaper than the rj44, not 50%. Either way, im not spending $3200+ on an axle from anyone. When there are much cheaper alternatives that can work essentially just as well. As long as youre not driving like a moron that is.
