anyway to add to the thread I've been abusing my 30/8.8 combo for a year now with zero failures. 8.8 is welded tubes, chromos, full detroit, 4.56, ruffstuff swap kit/diff cover and even drum brakes and c-clips. cost me about $800 since I found it on CL with gears and chromos already and added some stuff to it. D30 is holding up amazing as well with zero failures. full circle 760's, from stock shafts to abs to chromos, none broken, and carrier from RWKHaus! with aussie locker. love the setup on 35's. hate the braking power and gears could be deeper
as for rear axle D44 or 8.8. I would go with whatever good deal comes your way first. I found an 8.8 first so that's what I run. very happily

And either a D44 or a F8.8 should be fine for anything up to a 37" tire with common sense while wheeling...

unless those are for the full width 8.8
either way. my "high alloys" seem to do the trick

For a Explorer 8.8 as thats what people swap in to the XJ..
FYI that kit is for a mustang housing, and I even doubt that is a True chromoly axle, and likely just a mis print. ALOT of people lable the F8.8 and the C8.25 ten factory shafts as "Chromoly", expecially that seriously uninformed offroad place.
I will admit its not very clear how Ten factory or even Alloyusa list alot of their shafts. In any case even a 1541H is stronger then stock and a improvement...

on the ten factory catalog, you have to watch the headers for different axles. you can buy 4140 shafts for d44 but not for 8.8's. pretty much anything past page 6 is 1541.
His xj is a daily driver i don't think he really wants full width axles. The reason i said explorer 8.8 they are cheap and real easy to get.And arb is the only 8.8 locker ox eaton e locker auburn ected locker as well. The best not full width dana 44 for the rear would be a rodeo/passport dana 44.

Just FYI, I highly doubt that your 8.8 shafts are a "chromoly". Not one of the shelf company I know of that offers them in a 4xxx "Chromoly" material. Everyone offers them in a 1541H material = "High Alloy". Just saying..

Just as it reads. A f8.8 axle isnt chromoly. U can convert it to take 9" axles though... then its a different axle and not a f8.8 really. Yes the locker and gear set are f8.8 but the axles, axle bearings and retainers are f9 (basically)..
Unless its something new, moser did not have a single cclip 4xxx axle for anything.

Ive got the 8.25 most likely 27 spline, and have been lookin for an xj 44 for months. Theres nothin around here at picknpulls or craiglist. So my only options are a ford 8.8. I peronally am eyeing the one that
East Coast Gear Supply offers. I atleast recommend checking it out OP.

theres 4 just from that one search in oregon, you dont list where in oregon you are, so thats the best I can offer.
As for a F8.8 by ECGS. Why? They are more then a Currie NEW Rockjock D44 and the RJD44 is stronger, way stronger, housing and brackets, and will actually fit.
