Default Need traction!!!

I bought my XJ last summer specifically for bringing with me to college here in Duluth. I was really disappointed to find out that it doesn't have LSD and today I ended up backing up 2 blocks down the hill to find a flat spot to get some momentum up to get up the hill. I was really hoping for more results out of the 4wd system. I have it in 4wd full time and still can't start from a stop when on a hill. I think its time I start in and make some changes to my baby. All I have done since I bought it is have her repainted and put some new speakers in it. Where do you think I should start to make my jeep more capable on and off road. I was thinking about buying a LSD kit. Does anyone have any recommendations on brands or know anyone looking to sell theirs? Any advise would be appreciated!

first off, how is the tread on your tires? are they HT, AT or MT's?

My treads arent looking the best, I'm down to about a .25 inch some places, even less in others. I just rotated them and they should have a few more good miles on them, but I recognize that as part of my problem. I would defiantly like to get a locker for the rear end. I'm pretty new to the off road world, is there anything in particular I should be looking for?

Get new tires. Duratracs are mighty popular.

Even if you had bought one with an LSD, there probably wouldn't be much slip limiting happening any more, the "clutches" tend to wear out. Still, every time I change my rear LSD diff oil I put the friction additive in, just in case As previously said, look at what is actually lacking in traction, the tires.

If your problem is driving in snow on the road, I think they would very much appreciate it. Save you from slamming into other vehicles with basically bald tires. Look into some new at least AT tires. An LSD or locker doesnt help near as much when you've got drag slicks for tires.

Get better tires, and use part time 4 wheel drive, not full time.

DONE GET MT TIRES FOR THE SNOW, I agree with what was said besides getting MT tires. A good AT tire that is rated for snow should do the trick. If you are still slipping around then go for a locker. I am not a fan a auto lockers they are pretty noisy. go with a cable or elec. locker.

Is there anything I should be looking for when buying a locker? Also, where do I buy one?
