So I am currently running 5"-5.5" of lift on 31"s - I really want bigger tires but I am on a budget too... 35"s would be sick but I don't want to cut the crap out of my fenders and it will be more expensive in the long run. So I think I want a nice set of 33"s.
My dream goal would be to find an 8.25 with 4.10s in it and swap my d35 out. Then just regear my front d30 to 4.10.
I already plan on getting rid of my RC adjustable track bar and getting a double shear IRO track bar.. I also plan on getting a heavy duty tie rod.
I also plan on getting bushwacker flat flares.
Does this sound like a good idea or will I kick myself for not going 35"s after the fact? The problem with 35"s is the re-gearing will cost more, the tires will cost more, more cutting, less flex, Im sure an 8.25 would be up for 35"s.. Im pretty easy when I go wheeling, never beat the crap out of my xj...
What should I do? I'm not trying brake the bank... I already have a procharged 2012 Mustang thats a money pit. but I want more out of my xj. I love it to death though. Back in October when I bought the jeep, it was bone stock and after so much hard work Ive really grown to love my jeep.
I dont have much welding skills so an 8.8 is kind of outta the question... Unless I can have perches welded on by my buddy.
What to do!?!?! I like having a clean jeep and as cool as a low cogg jeep sounds. I dont want to have banged up fenders and crap.. this is my daily driver.

With that much lift, I'd be running at least 35's. It could easily be done with little to no trimming, bumpstops, and still flex great. Personally, I'm only going up to 3" to fit 35's when I go up in size, I'm running 33's on 1.5" of lift with very little trimming, no rubbing, and great flex now. I know my Jeep would be towering over the 33's if it was lifted that much, and just wouldn't look right imo.

that looks great... I feel like if I am going to go 4.56 though and regear both axles I should just go 4.88s and go 35"s
4.10s with 33"s should be better then what im running now - 3.55s on 31"s
4.10s is almost stock gearing with 33"s - I live on an island so hills really aren't an issue. and like I said, I could find a rear axle swap with 4.10s already in it. that way i can dump my d35 and put a 8.25 out back.

I've destroyed 4.88 pinions with 4 banger jeeps on 33's.
you can get away with 33's on the stock gears. that's what im doing now. ive even seen 35's on the stock 3:55's daily driven to. but I would like to go 4:10's one day

Go big or go home
I say 35s and trimming.
My last rig was 4.5 and 35s and I was super happy with it.
I'm on 3" and 33s with my newest XJ and its a nice setup also..
If your just gonna run 33s why not find a 4.10 8.8 and then just regear the 30 or find a 410 30..
Not the most ideal ratio for 33s..but better than stock 355s.
Keep in mind..35s are a different ball park.
You'll want to start considering some things to beef up the 30..
And your stock steering won't last with 35s.
This is all assuming you actually wheel

I installed the lift myself. I had gotten a 3" lift from rough country with an aal and decided against using the aal because my stock leaf pack was shot. So i bought new 3.5" leafs from rustys and put em in. Then later down the road after I did an sye and control arms I added a 2" coil spacer to the front and an extended shackle in the rear.

This was at 3"-3.5"s

Here is the coil spacer

And then the extended shackle

My low back spaced wheels make the lift look smaller and I still have stock fender flares with no trimming. Its over 4.5"s of lift at least. All then parts were brand new and haven't sagged, its only been 6 months

OP, that's a pretty jeep you got there. I'd say at least 33s for what you are trying to do.
