Hey everyone, I have a 1991 jeep Cherokee with a 4.5in lift from what I was told and think. Im wanting to get new shocks and springs but don’t know what size to get. Im gonna be using the jeep for mostly trails and crawling. So was thinking of getting softer shocks and what not. But not sure if that’s correct.
Can anyone help me out with what I need and the way to go about it.
Engine: 4.3L with headers and full 3" exhaust system
Bilstein shocks ride smoother than most. Most of your roughness is probably coming from the rear leaf springs, which in most lift kits are pretty stiff to give the lifted vehicle more stability
Those tires are probably not doing you any favors in terms of ride and handling. How old are they? Might want to consider a softer tire that's still aggressive for wheeling.
Superlift makes some soft spring rate coils - just be sure to either keep your front sway bar of just deal with body roll. For the rear, definitely consider a "shorter" leaf pack coupled with a longer shackle - ideally a boomerang design or have relocation brackets installed.
Shocks are something you don't want to cheap out with. That's where you should spend your money. People swear by Bilstein 5100s for a reason - they're awesome!
