The OP asked for lifts of 5.5-7.5, therefore everyone, well almost, that replied on this thread is somewhere in that range, and therefore a lot more top heavy than a stock XJ. That being said, a sway bar comes in play a lot more at that height.
Very true, I wasn't disagreeing with you. Just merely saying it's possible to run with out em. Lifted and stock.

And why has it been 6 months and you still haven't taken the broken lower links out? Just my opinion, but it makes it hard for people to take you seriously and take your advice when you don't really take care of your own vehicle. I hope the picture is old and you have since removed them instead of driving around with broken suspension parts. Just saying

Oh I definitely agree with that. As I said, I've ran both way, definitely prefer sway bar.

...I took em out. Both sides. Didn't put em back in. There's no point. The rest of my suspension is in great shape and no reason to get em when I'm lifting my Jeep 3-4 inches. And again previous owner issues. He broke em.

And the picture is old from when I found the problem. And who says I don't take care of my Jeep? You're going to judge me, based off of one picture. Sweet bro.

All my I was saying the the OP is you can run with out a sway bar. That's all. Did say you should or had too. Nothing, just it was an option.

Loose/floaty feeling is generally a result of;
Loose/wornout TRE's
Blown/bad steering dampener
Bad PS gear box

A jeep with the proper set up will NEVER need sway bars...
Okay - first, let me just say this. The PO had nothing to do with this. Re-read my post: the installer CUT the part & welded in a piece of steel.

Now this next might sound harsh, but I'm not one for mincing words: Your XJ is stock. Stay out of my thread with your garbage. I didn't ask the pros/cons of sway bars. When you run upwards of 6" lift without one & execute that cute move you described, then you can comment. But not in this thread. Again, removing mine is NOT an option. Do not derail my thread.

In addition, go clean all that built-up crud, replace the nasty bushings and take care of your Jeep before trying to give advice. Have a nice day.

Thanks Frank! Here's the breakdown:
Stabilizer is less than a year old (OME), installed the same time as the Currie system, which was Christmas of 2010. So I doubt the TREs are bad. But they could be.

The Durango box - well that could be something to look into. But it was also installed at the same time & I am reluctant to put down the cash again so soon. I don't remember if it wast a new box or rebuilt, but I can check. I was afraid it was going to lead to this ... but you gotta start small & work upwards. Can this box be adjusted without ripping things apart?

Edit: I should add that when I turn the wheel with the XJ parked, it feels like there is some looseness, but looking at the tires, they do slightly move almost immediately with the turn of the steering wheel.

That almost sounds like a worn TRE or a loose trac bar. Does it knock, even a tiny bit, when you move the wheel? Almost like a clunk? I'm not saying Frank is wrong, he's like a god when it comes to this stuff, just sounds like something I had going on when my trac bar came loose, bottom mount bolt. Couldn't move it by hand and everything seemed tight and in visual order, but when a friend moved the wheel and I watched the front I could see the bar move in the mount. New bushing and some elbow grease and never had an issue again. My trac bar is a RE double shear, FWIW.
