I have a 1999 XJ, I just wrapped up the install of a RE 5.5 long arm kit with 35's. My question is, is my front seems to be closer to the back of the fender opening? Obviously I expected a bunch of rubbing, so I will be trimming soon. To me everything seemed legit when I was installing the kit until I took a look from the side and thought the front tires were kind of towards the rear part of the fender opening. Needless to say thats where I'm rubbing when I turn. Is this normal for a 1999 fender opening or RE 5.5 kits?

 

It looks centered to me. When lifted the axle arcs down and back. You could maybe extend your arms a little for some clearance but that will just make you more likely to hit the front of the fender on compression. Consensus around here is going to be time to trim IMO.

 

it looks pretty close to center. maybe a little far back. do you have adjustable arms? if so, adjust them to push the axle an inch or so forward and then see. could also trim fenders.

 

for sure, trimming is going to happen, When I turn the rear part of the tire is just about ripping off the stock fender flare.

 

Just push the axle forward a lil. Thats what I did. Now its actually like 1.5" more forward

 

Anytime you lift, unless you intentionally change things to stop it, the front axle will be closer in the back of the opening, and the rear axle will be closer in the front, cuz as has been said, the front axle arcs down and back, and the rear axle arcs down and forwards.

Not sure why with a long arm kit, as it would be easy to push the axle forward, but in the rear, they don't change the position of the axle mount on the spring, and when you drop the rear of the spring, the axle moves forward.

 

The rear tires look close to the front of the wheel wells, and the front look close to the rear of the wheel wells. Is there no adjustment in the long arms to push the front axle farther forward?
