I have a question.... I bought a 1991 Jeep Cherokee, was in a front end accident. (Bought it from a friend who was the one that crashed it.) She smacked right front quarter panel with left and Tahoe left rear quarter panel. Pushing back making the engine compartment rather cramped. We banged out most of of engine compartment to fit battery in. But the radiator seems to need a little more room then what it there. Within 2yrs. Replaced radiator along with a recent headgasket replacement. My question is has anyone ever tried to put the radiator and mount on top of roof. I live in the desert and dirt roads are vicious. I'm trying to figure out how to save from purchasing radiators more then necessary. I'm going for practical not necessarily pretty. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks

Having a body shop fix the front end will be cheaper then moving it on top of the jeep.Price the high pressure hoses that big or how thick of the metal tubing will have to be and can you weld at all ?

 

I don't think I've ever seen a radiator mounted on a roof of any vehicle. This should be... interesting.

 

Off road rigs, like some ultra4, mount them on top/behind in rear. But we're talking highly specialized rigs, with high dollar components.









That said, I don't see this happening on an XJ. The radiator needs to be able to flow air. Even with fans, sitting on top of a roof, in the middle of the desert...wouldn't be enough.

As stated above, your best option would be to fix the bodywork the right way, or get another shell.

As also stated above, if you decide to do this anyways, take lots of pictures, haha

 

The mud racers here mount it in the bed of the pickup so it don't get caked up with mud.Like this http://www.fourwheeler.com/features/.../photo-03.html Something i did forget can you even get a high flow water pump for the 4.0 ?If not he will need a inline pump or maybe two depending how far the lines run.

 

If overall looks are not what you are looking for then remove the grill and custom mount the radiator further out into the grill more. You will have to cut a section of the upper core support to get to the radiator cap. Or you could get a tube with a cap in it and splice that into the upper radiator hose.
