Default motor swap

I recently blew a rod in my 01 cherokee 4.0, and am looking into a motor. I found a motor that will fit 96 and up. My buddy was telling me some motors have different motor mounts.. Is this true and what's the best way to tell?

Regarding mount differences, yes, not all I6 4.0L have the same bolt pattern. Blocks from 2000-2006 TJ and 1999-2004 WJ have a different bolt pattern than all years XJ. Heads are a different story. You may want to read this article from the PERA: http://www.pera.org/articles/eb40319.htm.

If you get a block from a 1991-1999 YJ/TJ, you'll need XJ/MJ brackets. (The dog house width differs.)

If you do decide to get a block from the later TJ or WJ, we do make an unadvertised set of brackets to make the swap. We don't advertise this because we would want to discuss other details with you so you know what you're getting into.

If you're not sure what you have, call us with the block casting number (located under the front freeze plug.) Or, just call us. We'll help you out.

These guys are the best. Listen to them above all others.

I've had a set of their brackets and they're pure Beef and the guys there are very friendly and knowledgeable. Way better than that OEM Junk
