More Ground Clearance, pls
I am currently running a stock 99 cherokee sport classic with 225/75R15 tires. I see that the ground clearance appears to be:
Ground clearance from differentials = 7.3"
If I install a nominal 3" lift with 31" tires, how much resulting ADDITIONAL ground clearance do I get?

The lift won't give you any more clearance from the ground to the diff.. then tires might give you an inch MAYBE... The lift gives your suspension more clearance, certain parts depending on what lift you go with.

Take the difference in diameter and divide it by 2, that should be how much additional diff clearance you get from bigger tires. So going from a 28 to a 33 for example, you should in theory get 2.5" extra clearance. I don't do metric tires so you'll have to figure that one out.

simple math
315/75/16
315 is the width in millimeters on the tread
75 is the aspect ratio... it can be read as 75% or 0.75
16 is the rim size in inches...
so here is how you figure it out
step 1) 315 x 0.75 = 236.25
step 2) 236.25 x 2 = 472.5
now we need to convert 472.5mm to inches
to do this we use this simple forumula
mm / 25.4 so 472.5 / 25.4 = 18.60 (approximate)
now add 472.5" to the size of the wheel (already listed in inches)
16 + 34.60" tall
now take the tread width (315) and divide it by 25.4 to get the tread width in inches
315 / 25.4 = 12.40 (approximate)
so a 315/75/16 tire is a 34.60" x 12.40" x 16 tire
