I used Mevotech's Terrain Tough ball joints I got from Rock Auto they look good the only problem I had with them is the grease fitting , I had to change them on the lower ball joint to a shorter 90 degree fitting and sand down the the top of the fitting to clear the ujoint in the axles other then that I love the grease fitting . the ball joints I removed were in bad shape the lower joints were both dry and come apart , the top ball joints both came apart the shaft came out of the housing , the front end did not have that much play . I just wanted to change them because they looked like the OEM joints .

Last go around, I went MOOG's. Used Spicer for the u-joints. Happy so far.
Anything these days is a crap shoot really. Tons of info one way or the other. Some say this, some say that...I made a call, and am ok with it so far. I ALWAYS go Spicer for u-joints, unless it's an emergency, then you take what you get, to get you home...BUT, I carry spares when I wheel, all Spicer, but if you bend a shaft, or something like that, you may need to stop and get what they got.
Last set of BJ's I went with MOOG, yes I read the accounts of they suck, blah blah blah...but I've put some miles on them, and they're ok so far.
Yes I have read MOOG quality has gone down over the years. Could be said about most companies though. They're all looking to maximize profit, which means lower quality materials.
Better, faster, cheaper.
Pick 2, you'll never get all 3, haha

I'm sure the Moogs will work fine, but if I am going to use Chinese ball joint then I am going to pay Chinese prices, which is exactly what I did, I have been running cheap ebay ball joints for a year and a half now with no problems.

Wow as old as all of are XJ's are I would think a lot more people would have changed the ball joints by now because the stock lower ball joint does not have a grease fitting .
