im thinking about getting a mean green alternator for my xj and im wondering how good and durable they are and are they worth the $400 or is their something better for less money

I put an alternator on from my 93 zj that has a 4.0 and it really wasnt any different. and A55MULL3T, mine was a direct bolt on

Check with Ohio Generator also. They do custom windings.

do you have to send them your old alternator, or do you just buy a new one. just asking cuz their site is down

NICE. i will look for one next time im cruisin pick n pull, from what i read on the "what fits" thread a little grinding is involved. i like bolt on..grinding is OK?, but bolt on is better! lol..

how much more amperage did you pick up?

im not sure on the amperage. it was just off the zj that i pulled the motor out of and never put back in and i really needed an alternator

i installed a custom made 170amp alternator in mine, barely fits though....had to do trimming on the housing. My dad owns a mechanic shop and he specializes in rebuilding alternators and starters so he helped me out building this for my jeep but i dont think those alternators are worth 400.

(didnt paint it because didnt care how it looked, just how it works)

i run 4 lights on the roof, 2 on the bumper, and a winch. i use the ZJ 136 alt upgrade and it works great. i would also suggest doing a batter and wire upgrade if you are runnin that many amps
