yup, rewiring the whole system to 2 gauge or something around there is a good idea

I've also covered potential pitfalls (I always cringe a bit when people say "The ZJ unit will fit!" Yeah - it fits 1991-up, but I've had to correct people trying to replace a Delco (1984-1990) with an ND, because it's not a straight drop-in...)

There was a topic on here a while back about they're customer service. Aparently its pretty hard to get them to warranty the parts

 

Mean Green is far too much money for my budget. I took my factory alternator to a shop that specilizes in alts/generators for cars. They replaced the bearings and rewound the alternator.

Look for a shop in your area.

 

If you have a place that rebuilds all this stuff get a j/y alt and have them make you a beefed up alt,2000 xj's come with a 120 amp alt you know?

 

I've got a Mean Green, and would recommend it... Granted the $400 price tag is a bit high. My headlights don't dim like they used to with winch use, and my voltmeter is steady at 14v. MG is 210 amp

 

A Durango alt is a direct bolt in if I remember correctly. I believe it's around a 160 amp isn't it? Buddy of mine just put one on his tj an upgraded wiring to keep up with his winch. He ended up having to put a power steering fluid cooler on cause that was heating up. Apparently the Durango alternator wasn't dragging down like the stock one so the ps pump bore the brunt lol

 

where are you getting these alt. from? Napa ,Auto Zone?

 

Just checked my buddies build thread. It's a 2002 Durango alternator from autozone 160a. Bolts right up.

i think i might do this then, i also wanted to do a dual battery setup like what they did in JP magazine so then i think that would be plenty

 

i'm gonna hit the JY this weekend i was going to get a mean green but 400 is a bit pricey, also the v8 grand cherokee 136A was good until i read about the durango alt. i think this mod is in the sticky what junkyards parts will fit....
