Default Mabe limp mood ?

I have a 91 xj 4.0 auto. Took it up real steep hill almost straight up had it in 4 high third gear had to get in to the gas half way up. Nailed it and would not rev over 2 grand max ??? Anyone ever had this happen ?

Never happened to me but I'd start with the usual culprits... When did you last change your fuel filter? You might have tilted enough that some sediment in your tank entered the fuel pump.

My first thought too, but its an auto, which means it either wasn't downshifting or it wasn't making power in the first place...

That's another possibility. It sounds like the motor isn't making the power you want it to... Just for kicks though adjust your kickdown cable and see if that makes a difference- it's easy enough to try:

That's another one I though of... but I can't imagine that the kind of conditions he's describing could be affected by that... but I could be wrong! I wonder if he tried the hill in 1st or 4-low?

Yea it's auto do I don't think it's down shifting I haven't changed the filter in a while. I don't have a cat on it. I'm going to go back out and try over in 1st/2nd. When I take it on high way in overdrive it kicks down all the time think this might have anything to do with it ?
