Im in several local Jeep clubs and Im co founder of a rock crawling club, so I know the jokes that will be heading my way but hey I drag raced Hondas and heard those jokes when I took em to red neck dragstrips.

Im getting mixed results on the YJ axle swap. I have some telling me that the spring perches are the same width and some saying they are not. For the one poster who completely didnt read anything in any of my posts please read before posting.

I KNOW AN XJ IS SOA and a YJ IS SUA.

When anything has been done on my YJ the work was done by me including rebuilding the engine, computer, suspension, fender trimming, and lots of fun mods.

Thats my YJ, so I have my weekend warrior and want a street warrior to drive during the week going to and from work.

I know the use of a Spring under axle setup will drop the XJ about 5 inches and since I have not purchased an XJ yet. I want to look at which year will be best for this conversion. Pre 95 for sure but thinking 87-90 range.

Paint when finished will be a flat or satin color and not black or tan like the YJ. Thinking a Satin Red.

any other suggestions on which other car or truck springs would give me the lowered stance without cutting.

I would consider not lowering it. I have a friend that took his sons 96 model, put some aftermarket 8 inch wide wheels, with a great backspacing, and then added some BFG Radial T/As with a wider footpath. It lowered the vehicle a couple of inches, and it handles like its on rails. I wonder if the springs and their ratings on a 2wd jeep is different than a 4wd? You could make a sweet ride and still be 4wd, kinda like a subaru...

so it will look like this when it is done?

all kidding aside I would look into TJ front coils (-1")... or even ZJ rear coils... (-3-4" and then run a spacer to get it to the height you want)

maybe even ZJ 1-2" lift rear coil

I setup an account there but sadly it appears my email addy I used to sign up had been hijacked.

I guess the oil pan thing will be a big consideration and I need to break out the tape measure. If I had an XJ still at my disposal we could drop a YJ axle on it in a few minutes just to see the actual fit and amount of drop. I have access to a set of 4cy XJ front and rear springs if that matters any in this install.

I want to know whats going to be the best years for an XJ 2dr 2wd with auto trans that I can throw my time into customizing it. Again Im going to do the SUT thing and cut the back of the cabin off and splice on body panles from a MJ.
