I had my c8.25 and hp30 geared to 4.88s and I also put a full case detroit in the rear. The pinion has 1/4-1/3 turn of slop which everyone's saying is normal but the rear diff is loud, kinda like a mud terrain at high speeds. It doesn't make any noises until 50ish. Anyone have any input ?

Edit: gears are nitro

That's a little more play than I like but not enough to worry about usually and Nitros are known to be a little loud, thus the price.

Also does it stop when you let off the gas or is that when it stops? Or does it do it all the time above 50mph?

a little slop is normal. I love to hear the whining in my Jeep, it lets me know that it was once a little jeep that grew up to be a big jeep. Plus hearing the clank of a strong locker is only for the prideful ones

When mine loads and unloads its fun. Its the gear whine on decel that im not too fond of or the loud clunk of front lcoker when turning sharp.

Kris that's what I'm kinda concerned with. My friends are havin mental breakdowns over the pinion slop from the Detroit so I figured id start asking around about it and others opinions

I have a tap pinion slop in my 8.25 with a power trax but it's not much my open 8.25 in my last jeep had a ton. I was going to take mine to a diff shop. I've never done diff work before. But it's not getting worse so I may just leave it.
