Cherokee9t8, I love that ! Couple questions,

1. what filter is that, did you just cut it?
2.How long is the intake tube and where did you get it?
3.Is that a 2nd Stock rubber tube going into the cowl? thanks !

1. I bought the filter off of a local classified site (was still new). The opening is 3", the base measured about 6" (alittle tight to fit in the cowl) and necked down to 4" at the end and was around 6" long. No cutting of the filter done.

Similar to this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/3-UNIVERSAL-...item2c63bee82a
2. The metal part of the intake is just regular 3" exhaust pipe cut to 15" long from a local muffler shop.
3. The rubber tube on the throttlebody side is stock Cherokee, the one that goes into the cowl and attaches to the filter is one I had from a 94 Grand Cherokee. I just used regular gear clamps from the hardware store to tighten it all down. I drilled a 1/2" hole and threaded an air tool fitting (from a basic air-powered impact gun/cut-off wheel/etc) to attach the smaller hose (that normally goes to the airbox) in the metal pipe.

Looks like it should get the job done no problem. I read a few write-ups before doing mine, and was also on a budget so didn't want to buy everything some people have.

I paid:

filter-$15
3"x15" exhaust pipe-$7
(3)4" gear clamps-$5
and the rest was stuff I had kicking around.. (and work supplies us our air tool fittings, so I borrowed one lol)

Total=$27

Your new setup ia pretty much the same as mine. I think the cowl intake is a good idea as well for cooler air purposes but think of all the water and muck that will get on it!

Here's mine:

Nothing should really get on/to the filter when put inside the cowl, as the cowl is sealed over the passenger area, and it'd take ALOT of water to get enough in there to do any damage. When I cut my cowl open, there was almost no dirt/mud in there (and that's after 14 years of build-up).. If all goes well I may put mine to a good test this weekend and see lol.

Yes like Cherokee9t8 said, the passenger side is covered. The cowl set up will protect against , but yours is still susceptible to things of that nature, especially with those vents right about it. But as long as you are not driving through headlight covering crap, it will be fine. I have driven through stuff like that before and do not plan on doing it again.
