The locker wont show itself til you put it in 4wd. So you wont know its there during 90% of daily driving.
And the front is more effective. Its easier to pull yourself up an obstacle with the front end than it is to push up with the rear.
Simple physics.

But if your climbing alot of hills most of the weight transfers to the rear anyway, so I guess it depends on how you use your rig.

Whats going to be better? Your front end pulling you up and over, or your back trying to bounce the front up onto the ledge?
I would rather crawl so I'm not pitched onto my back.

By the way....
I have an ARB locker in my D44 rear...I also have one sitting in a box for my D30.
I wish the front locker was installed first.
The rear is a blast in the snow, however the front would be better for off road.

If this is a DD, and or sees snow/ice a rear locker would be better. If it has fullt-ime 4wd (np242) a front auto locker basically "removes" your full-time capability. Otherwise, depends on what you do. Selectable lockers are going to be better \, but more expensive. I live near the beach and do mostly sand/dunes, some trails but not much crawling. So a rear is better for that. If it mostly sees street, front locker is pretty much a waste, as it is non-existant in 2wd. Either way you go, driving your vehicle accordingly is important.

Where I wheel there is no ledge per say but if there is barley any weight on the front wheels even with a locker and an open rear you never even see the ledge.
