barely any weight? what about the thing thats making the jeep move? pretty sure the engine, trans and transfer case put more weight on the front wheels than the rear. not much in the rear to weigh the rear down, except maybe a full tank of gas and whatever gear you might be carrying.

front will do provide more tracion, peroid. doesn't matter if your climbing a hill or not. on that note, i recently put a lunchbox in the front and i'm not a big fan. don't like my locker fighting me when i'm trying to work around trees and obstacles. either going ox or e locker for the front. i still pefer to lock the rear of the vehicle first for whatever reason.

Have you never climbed a steep hill and felt the front get "light"? I know I have.

the only time i've ran into this issue is getting caught in my mustang on slicks in the rain (can be very sketchy). if you have any tread on your tires and you run into this issue you seriously need to lay off the skinny pedal.

No. I have Posi in my axles. Posi works like the lunchboxes, power to both under acceleration and unlocks in turns. The downside to posi's is there are "clutch packs" that like to wear out. My XJ was a Fire support truck from WVa so it came with a little extra.

I made a mistake on my TJ locking the front with a lunchbox it was not invisible it would bind in 2wd , It was replaced with an ARB and I never had an issue after that. My YJ had ARB's front and rear and my XJ will be getting an ARB in the front .

But yes you are correct. A Posi Track is a type of LSD but the clutches are a little more heavy duty than a standard LSD. They are Auburn Gear units. Ill have to get you a pic when I change my diff fluid shortly or I can take a pic of my spare this weekend to show you the clutches in it.

That's funny, I never had that problem an I live in the moutains and get lots of snow in the winters. I've ran lunchbox lockers in the rear before I regear and get ARB's installed

Huh can't find anything except the ECTED on their site...they might not make it anymore. There are other posi devices too...worm gear, helical...I don't think clutch types unload.

I have a lunch box in the front. Barely notice it in 2wd. In 4 it is amazing. Haven't regretted it once. For the money they can't be beat. Been in snow too with no problems.

hmm it's almost dead even on this vote. only reason I'd lock the rear first is because I'm still a learner and I think it'll just be easier on me.
I dont think I want to learn how to wheel with a front locker. plus it's easier to break stuff when you're locked.

and the fact that lunchbox is drop in on the front and I dont have to adjust the ring and pinion at all so I can do that upgrade whenever I'm ready
and thats my pro vs. con chart^^

you shouldn't need to adjust anything with the ring and pinion. on the front you'll need to remove the ring gear, but its pretty easy. the rear is a even easier swap though. i would recommend the rear first, but to answer the question you'll get a more capable vehicle with the front locked before the rear.
