Question Lifting Jeep, SYE Question

Im wanting to lift my cherokee 4.5 inches and understand I need to install a SYE kit onto my transfer case to prevent speed wobbles and I plan on doing this when I rebuild my tcase. From what I've read i need to swap out my rear drive shaft with a front drive shaft. Do I use a stock drive shaft for my year or is there supposed to be a certain size I need to measure out? Still pretty new to this as this will be my first lifted jeep, thanks in advance!

I think the stock front drive shaft you'd want is off a Grand Cherokee. I got the Rough Country Cv drive shaft when i did my SYE and am happy with it. Tom Woods and Adams driveshaft are great options as well. All 3 brands are $250-$300. Out here in cali he stick ones are hard to come by.

Even if mine is an 87 Cherokee I should go with a stock front drive shaft from a Grand Cherokee? I was thinking about going with the Rough Country lift kit so I'll look into their front drive shafts too. Theres a few salvage yards I was thinking I could go to a take it off one of their Cherokees and maybe save some money but I also dont want to compromise the integrity of the drive shaft.

The Rough Country is a rear CV shaft not a front. Using a front is just an option. You arent looking to match to your year. The Zj's have a different stock front drive shaft than Xj's. I think they are a little longer, but not 100% on the difference.

Yeah, most parts on the xj's are pretty similar unitl 93 or 95 i think so swapping with them should be ok. I just wasnt sure if I needed a differnet size with the sye install.

You can also measure the distance between the center yolks after the lift and SYE is on to find the size.

I was hoping to have everything ready for when I take it in to get the lift done. From what I understand with the SYE you also don't have to drop the t-case.

Rather than start a new thread, I was hoping it would be alright to jump in here since its along the same lines. I have searched in the Tech section, but there is A LOT of information there and all related searches I could think of didn't yield any answer.

My question is when lifting to 4.5" and installing a SYE/appropriate drive shaft in the rear, does the front drive shaft not need replacing, adjusting, changing, etc.? Thanks and if inappropriate, my apologies for the highjack.

Dropping the transfer case is an option, but SYE is the way to go. Its actually pretty simple. Im a total amateur and was able to do it.

measure distance between center yolks after installing lift and center yolk or just buy the Rough Country for Xj's. I do believe its the front drive shaft from a Zj that you guys are looking for to use as a rear cv.
