Default Lifter replacement, should I?

Ok so it's starting to warm up and I've got enough room in the driveway to work again (until I get my garage back). My valve cover seems to be slowly sweating some horsepower so I was going to replace it. Then I thiught "hey, I should do the lifters and push rods as well." Just as some preventative maintenance. The engine has 240k on her so I don't think its a terrible idea. How hard is this going to be? I looked at a video and a guy didn't have to remove his head, he used one of those telescoping magents. Anybody else try this technique?
Just looking for a little insight before I dive into my engine.
Thanks in advance,
Joe

I haven't had a Jeep for long but since I bought mine I have removed the entire engine and removed the cylinder head in the process. On my 2001 I don't think the push rod bores are large enough to physically pull a lifter through it. I am 90% positive it is required to remove the head, and then use the special tool that grips the lifter clips to pull out the lifters themselves. This process isn't one for a weekend job or taken lightly. I'd highly advise getting a FSM and looking at their process. Clearly states removing the head is mandatory.

Good luck on the project!

Edit- this would also go under the OEM tech section (for future reference)

6cylinder is correct the pushed bores are to small to fit the lifters through. You have to remove the head and if you have that many miles I would highly recommend getting a new cam as well. Its not a hard job but if you aren't very mechanical it could be a full weekend job.

IMHO, at 240k, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
