Default Largest throttle body for 97-01 XJ?

What size throttle body do you run on your 97-01 XJ? What is the largest that they make? Who makes it? Really curious to see what answers arise.

62mm any more and you would havr to bor the intake plenum. There is one company that will bor to 63mm. There are a couple companies tou can order thrm from, very pricey about 400 bucks jusy goggle it. There are a couple members on here that sell them,XJWOUNDERS comes to mind off the top of my head. Or find a good machine shop and have then bor it for you. All you have to do then is get a bigger throttle plate

I have an M62 supercharger. I didn't install it. I think the intake is stock though, but since the TB goes on the back of the supercharger what is really limiting the situation is the supercharger right? The intake plenum at lower rpms? So I could probably still get more boost with a larger throttle body even if the intake is the same? I might not have that right.

I'm a little confused by your post.

The throttle bodies you will find for a 4.0l will be bored out from the inside. The physical size of the throttle body will not be any larger. Also a larger throttle body will not increase the PSI that the supercharger generates. It will simply allow better airflow through it compared to a stock throttle body

Not sure what you mean about limiting the situation

He means the intake plenum on the SC. His TB no longer sits in the stock location.

OP, have you measured the intake of the SC itself? That will be the determining factor as to how much you can bore off the throttle body. That said, I believe the max you can remove safely is 63-64, I might be wrong, hopefully Neal will chime in, he's the guy who knows em.

I had bored a stock TB out to 64mm. Any larger, I would be hitting the shaft bearings on both sides.

So a 64mm is the largest you can go on a stock body.

Yeah, that is what I meant. Thanks for clarifying that. No, I haven't measured it yet. I need to get a gasket before I take it off and do that. The TB on there now says "4.0L" on it so I assume that's a stock TB right? I haven't had a Cherokee since I was a teenager so I'm not sure.

I'd really like to find out whats the max you can port the intake of the M62 and then get a TB that matches that. I basically want to future plan for porting. I know a lot of people will just say "just get an M90 off such and such year car that is stock ported", but I will need all this new junk to make the M90 work and I kind of like the idea of trying to get the most out of basically what I already have. I've found a lot of pictures of ported M62's but not really any measurements of the changes. I want to figure this out because the guy who was going to tune the XJ told me to get the largest Throttle Body I can.

I know there are a good handful of folks on this forum with the same exact M62 kit from Boostec US Inc. Hopefully someone will chime in.

I might just go buy a gasket this weekend and see what it looks like, but I still interested to know how much bigger it gets when it's ported.

Thanks yall...

If the manifold is 62mm then I think I might just get my stock TB bored out. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong about the manifold size.

I'm not sure exactly which model of the m62 you are questioning but mine has a 76mm tb on it. I had to cut the intake snout back about 4", back where it was a bigger opening and then weld on a new flange. Worked out good for me.

Yes the hole on the intake manifold is 62mm.
