I am trying to identify which driveshaft would work best for my application for front and rear. I have measured and got the same length at ride height for both front and rear. I've got a '98 4.0 auto, 4.5" lift, d30, C8.25, 4.88s and 33s, and a 4:1 231DHD with SYE.

TL;DR - What cheap driveshaft fits the bill for 32.75" front and rear at ride height?

Before I bolted my rear driveshaft back up after tcase remove/install I noticed it my current rear "CV" shaft was only 33" fully extended and left little to no room to extend. (I was told it was a Tom Woods shaft when it was being installed a few years ago but seemed like it was a guesstimate/generic length, because it seemed too short then) both shafts now have a little play at the slip joint though and vibes at highway speed, and most of all i don't want to destroy a new to me tcase

I've already been to the local pull a part to measure and take home 2 front driveshafts from 1996 zjs (supposedly 31.77" collapsed) that seemed like they measured right, but once I got them home and put them side by side to my existing shafts they seem just as short and don't extend past 33". Plus they were 1.75" OD as opposed to 2"

I have looked at the dana cv chart pdf linked and discussed in other similar threads, but it seems like others are fine with stock front XJ or ZJ shafts with 30.66" collapsed length even up to 6" lift.

Sorry for the long winded background...

Any advice or something I'm missing? Has anyone tried a Dakota front shaft? I'm just trying to go with junkyard driveshafts that are the best length preferably without modification.

That's a little more extensive than the previous list I've seen, thanks! I'm still puzzled why the one i got from a zj 96 4.0 which is listed as 31.875" still isn't long enough. I'll measure again when I get home to check again for extended/collapsed.

Any experience with a shaft from an early 90s Dakota A500 or A518 and 231... it is listed as 31.406" collapsed

I don't know the answer but that's a wicked ride with 4.88's and 4:1.

No problem. It's measurements I've kept when I was doing the same thing you are.

You might try looking at Ranger/explorer shafts as well. I run a cut down explorer shaft in the front and ended up going with a Tom Woods shaft for the rear.
