what year is your XJ?
if it has the sealed output, you can run around in FWD for the meantime if you have to (remove rear shaft and engage 4wd).
my jeep has spent probably 2 months of its life in FWD during times of despair with driveshafts

it as a sealed output shaft so like heavy said you can remove the rear shaft and run in FWD for awhile. but i would highly recommend getting a SYE or a HnT to perminatly correct these driveshaft issues.

hack n tap, basacally you cut the existing output shaft of your transfercase and put a flange on it. it does the same thing as the HD SYE's but doesnt replace the entire shaft. do you have the 231 or 242 TC?
heres the HnT

heres a HD SYE

BTW: post a new thread with pictures of your lift.

dont go past a 1" TC drop

but make sure a SYE is on your list of things to do.
