I did a WJ seat swap a while back. The drive seat is busted and I need something better for my butt lol.
im not opposed to buying brand new, I looked at aftermarket options and I’m not super excited about what’s out there.
I’m wondering if anyone has swapped some odd brand seats from a newer vehicle in and has any recommendations I’m up for some mild fabrication. Not worried about the back seat

When I was looking for seats for my 91 XJ I measured a lot of different vehicle seats and found that there are a number of import (Honda, Nissan, Toyota) seats that will work (without too much modification/fabrication) but a lot of those seats are not very comfortable. I also found that the seats from a later model 08 - up Dodge Avenger or Chrysler 200 also fit with a little modification and are a more comfortable option over the import seats that I looked at. I was lucky enough to run across a really nice pair of XJ Laredo seats that popped up on Craigslist that had been stored inside the guys house for over 15 years that were in perfect condition. He was saving them for a project that he never really got started.

I assume anything would work if you're willing to do some fab work... the problem with stock XJ seats (especially in the later models) is that they're thin and somewhat unsupportive... WJ seats are a great upgrade. The ZJ seats are slightly less "cushy", though, so that may be an option to try as well.

AFAIK, any jeep seat will bolt to your pre-existing seat rails. The cushion part just bolts to the rail section with 4 nuts on studs. The seat cushion edge broke in my WJ so I swapped to an XJ seat just by unbolting it from the rails and bolting the XJ seat to it. It's a lot easier if you remove the seat from the jeep first.
