Default JCR tray and Odyssey Battery

Just ordered a JCR offroad replacement battery tray for my 97 cherokee. Does anyone know if a Odyssey 34/78-PC1500DT battery will work with a 1997 Cherokee and this tray?

The battery length size is too big for my stock tray. So hoping the longer JCR tray will fit it nicely and no other issues will present itself with the heavy duty battery.

Word of advice, dont get an Odyssey. I have had nothing but bad luck with them. A bunch of my customers complain about them too. My current one didnt even last 2 years. If you run it low even once, it will never be the same.

Sure you're not thinking of Optima? Odyssey batteries are among the best imo

I agree...Odyssey Batteries are stellar. It's Optima that have gone to crap.

I have noticed mine going down hill about a year after I got it. Then completely dead a year after that. I am going to say they switched something around about 5 years ago cause thats when all the problems started. I sell a ton of these batteries, specifically the 525, and they just dont last. I only went with them cause they made a size that worked for my application.

I bought an optima yellow top last year, and have been very pleased with it. I also have some wiring issues, and a parasitic drain. A few weeks ago I accidentally left my dome lights on for around 14 hours in 12* weather with no problems starting. I can honestly say I will not hesitate to buy another one when it is needed, but it is still under warranty for another 12 months.

Anyway... All of the retail photos (including the user manual) show the odyssey battery installed on the tray. Specifically the 34-PC1500, which was replaced by the 34-PC1500T. They are both .23" narrower than the 34/78-PC1500DT.

Furthermore the length of the 34-pc1500, 34-pc1500t, and the 34/78-PC1500DT are all the same.

It should fit just fine. The battery tapers from the top down. The largest measurement is traditionally the one included in the specifications. The top may rub against the AC compressor.
You may want to measure the bottom side of your battery to confirm it is less than 10.5" in length. I would guess that it is around 10"
If it is longer you should call JCR and ask them if their battery tray is really only 10.5" in length. Especially considering that they advertise it holding a battery longer than 10.5".

JCR Offroad XJBT-PC Replacement Battery Tray Dimensions
Length: 10.5 In
Width: 9.5 In
Height: 10.5 In

Odyssey 34/78-PC1500DT Dimensions
Length: 10.85 In
Width: 6.99 In
Height: 7.82 In

Thank you for the heads up. It worked out and fit perfectly with the JCR HD battery tray. Very excited to see how this battery does. Was tired of the interstate batteries 3 in 5 years (under warranty). Final one had a broken post and was leaking
