Standard is fine. The shorter one means you will need an even longer driveshaft

Why don't you use another front driveshaft?

There isn't any real need IMO.

The only time you will ever need to run a short SYE is if it is on a Wrangler or if you are running a doubler in your XJ.

Installing a SYE is really, really simple. I never did one before I did mine, never even opened a transfer case. I left my case in, didn't want to screw with gettin to some of the bolts. Only 2 things you'll need that you may not have are the flat head snap ring pliers & the Allen wrench to open the fill plugs. For fluid to refill, jeep recommends ATF+4 I grabbed 3 containers so I'd have plenty for backup. Check out YouTube for vid's before you start.
